French Fries are a well-known element of fast food.
Ingredients
- 5 Potatoes
- 5 cups of Cooking oil
- Some Paper towels
- A pinch of Salt
- Ketchup
Serves 3-4 people.
Procedure
- Heat oil in a pot.
- Slice potatoes into thin straw-like pieces.
- Deep fry sliced potatoes in heated oil for 10-15 minutes (stir once in a while to ensure even cooking).
- Remove and place on plate.
- Use paper towels to absorb the leftover cooking oil.
- Transfer to another plate if necessary.
- Add salt and stir with fork to ensure all french fries are evenly salted.
- Serve with ketchup.
Notes, tips, and variations
- Vary the size of the potato slices. Thick wedge shapes become Home Style Fries or English Style Chips, while thinly jullianed potatoes make for Shoestring Potatoes. Cooking times will need to be adjusted.
- Try adding other Spices after cooking. Minced Garlic is popular in California cuisine
- Instead of ketchup, serve with mayonaise, gravy, barbecue sauce, or salt & vinegar.
- For Poutine, (a French-Canadian treat,) toss cooked fries with cheese curds and smother with gravy.
