Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 8 oz (225g) plain Flour
- 2 oz (55g) Margarine
- 2 oz (55g) Lard
- pinch of Salt
- 2 tablespoons cold and 3 tablespoons hot Water
- 1 lb (500g) cooking Apple, sliced
- 1 oz (28g) Sugar, and additional to sprinkle on crust
- 1 oz (28g) Milk
Procedure
- Rub all flour, margarine, lard, and salt ingredients together until fine breadcrumbs
- Add 2 tablespoons water to make a soft but firm dough
- Roll pastry on floured surface to the size you want your pie, make two crusts
- Simmer sliced apples with 3 tbs water and 1 oz sugar until soft
- Add the cooked apple mixture to one of the pastry crusts
- Cover with the other crust of the pie
- Firm down edges with fork or finger
- Brush the pastry top with milk and sprinkle with sugar
- Bake at 275 °F (135 °C) until golden brown (about 45 - 60 minutes)
- Serve warm with ice cream or custard
Notes, tips, and variations
- Sprinkle a cinnamon-sugar mixture on the crust instead of pure sugar.
- Replace the lard with shortening for a vegetarian dessert
Warnings
- Filling will be very hot immediatly after the pie is taken from the oven.
